A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BISHOP

My Dear Brothers in Sisters in Christ in the Diocese of Oregon,

It is with great joy that I announce the appointment of The Reverend Jonathan Weldon as Canon to the Ordinary, effective February 1, 2004.

Jonathan is a devoted priest of our diocese and I am confident that his ministry will be a blessing to us all in the diocese.  Jonathan faithfully serves as Rector of the Church of the Resurrection in Eugene.  He has been actively involved in a variety of ministries in the diocese, including service on the Youth Commission, Commission on Ministry, Diocesan Council, Music and Liturgy Commission, as a Convocation Dean, and as President of the Standing Committee.  He has taught courses in the Leadership Program for Musicians and the School for the Diaconate, and served as a founding board member of the Nathan Network, an organization dedicated to promoting safe churches.

I invite your prayers for Jonathan and his family during this time of transition.  I look forward to his ministry with us in the vineyard of our Lord.

At this time I wish to especially express my thanks and appreciation for the ministry of my colleague, The Reverend Canon Jack Hilyard who has faithfully served as my interim assistant during these past few months. Jack has been a tremendous asset to me personally and a very valued member of our staff.  I have been truly blessed by his wisdom and his gracious counsel on a variety of different concerns.  I join with my other colleagues to express our deep respect, appreciation, and sincere thanks to him for his ministry with us.

May the blessings of this holy Advent and Christmas season greet you with joy and Christ's Peace.

Yours in Christ,

The Right Reverend Johncy Itty, PhD
Bishop

DECEMBER 16, 2003
CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO THE DIOCESE FROM BISHOP ITTY

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ in the Diocese of Oregon,

"I bring you good news of great joy for all the people:  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord"   Luke: 2:10

As we celebrate the mystery and majesty of the Incarnation during this holy Christmas tide, I give thanks to God for each of you and for the many ways that you have faithfully served your churches, your communities, and your neighbors in the Diocese of Oregon.  During this holy season we are commended to reflect on themes of devotion, faithfulness, and love.  We are called to be ever mindful of how Jesus' birth dramatically altered the course of human history and how the mystery of the Word made flesh offers us hope and renewed joy in the grace and abundant mercy of a loving God.

The many programs and services of outreach that you have provided year-round, and your faithful commitment to transform human lives has made the spirit of this Christmas season truly meaningful in the lives of so many people throughout our diocese.  I am so very proud of the good people of the Diocese of Oregon!  Thank you for your faithfulness and for your commitment to work even harder to bring healing, hope, and a renewed sense of joy to the most needy and marginalized among us.

May God continue to bless each of you, your families and your loved ones during this holy season.  May the joy of our Savior's birth bring you glad tidings of peace, good health, and happiness, now and throughout the New Year.

I wish you and your loved ones a blessed and joy-filled Christmas and a very happy New Year.

With prayers and every good wish, I remain

Faithfully Yours in Christ,

+Johncy Itty
Bishop

SERVICE SCHEDULE ON THE WEB

To the local churches:

Again this Advent season we will post times of special Christmas, New Year's Eve, Twelfth Night Celebrations, and Feast of Epiphany services on the diocesan web site.  We will not post announcements of other seasonal activities such as pageants, caroling parties, musical programs, etc. as we have in the past.  We feel that those activities are mainly of interest to the individual congregations and what we wish to offer on the web site is information for the visitors, occasional attendees, and others who might be surfing the web for services to attend.

Please send your service schedule as soon as possible.  Include date, time, liturgy to be used (Rite I or II, type of service, etc.) Other details are not necessary.  Please DO indicate if nursery or child care will be provided.

Posting will begin on next Sunday - the first Sunday in Advent.

It would be nice to have all our churches  included.

Thanks,

Kyle Wiseley, Web Minister

Special Announcement

Dear Outreach Partnership ministers:

In just a little over a month from now, we will begin a new church year  with the wonderful season of Advent.

Many church people want to turn their abilities and their time to serving others during this holy season, possibly as an antidote to all the  commercialism everywhere around us. Here are two ways that your people can  help themselves and others both spiritually and materially:

1. SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Saturday, December 6, 2003
9am to 2pm

Boys Scouts from the Portland Metro area will be dropping off donated food they have collected from local neighborhoods. Partners and their friends from area churches will gather at William Temple House, Northwest Portland, to receive and shelve the food donation.

2. GIFT WRAP FOR CHILDREN
Tuesday-Thursday, December 16-18, 2003
Anytime 9am - 4pm

Local merchants are donating toys and other items such as school supplies  for distribution to children from our client families. The gift wrapping will add a festive appearance to the gifts. Your group can choose a time convenient to all.

I will be glad to schedule a time for you and your people. For the  Saturday event, you can just show up without calling, though it would be  good for me to know approximately how many of you to expect.

God's blessings during these days of late Pentecost.

As ever,

Fr Steve Norcross
Director of Pastoral Services
William Temple House
