| Here's a poem I memorized in grade school, many years ago, and I've never forgotten it. I can't promise that it's "word perfect" but it's close. If anyone has this poem, I'd love to have a copy of it for its exact words and, of course, the author's name. Don't forget to send us one of your favorite poems. Thanks, ........................... | Abu Ben Adam, may his tribe increase, awoke one night from a great dream of peace, and saw, within the moonlight in his room, making it rich and like a lilly in bloom, an Angel, writing in the Book of Gold. Exceeding peace made Ben Adam bold, And to the presence in the room, he said, "What writest thou?" The vision raised its head, and with a look of all sweet accord, answered, "The names of those who love the Lord." "And is mine one?" said Abu, "Nay not so," replied the Angel. Abu spoke more low but cheerily still, and said, "Pray then, write me as one who loves his fellow man." The Angel wrote and vanished. The next night, the Angel came again in a great awakening light, to read the names of those whose love the Lord had blessed. And lo, Abu Ben Adam's led all the rest. |
